Family Medicine Residency Personal Statement
In a survey of family medicine residency programs, 88% cited the personal statement as a factor in selecting applicants to interview.
Program directors were also asked to rate the importance of the statement on a scale of 1 (not at all important) to 5 (very important). The statement received an average rating of 4.2. Of note, this was higher than the ratings for USMLE Step 1 score and LOR in the specialty.
A particularly important question to answer in the statement is "Why are you interested in pursuing a career in family medicine? In our free E-Document "Why Family Medicine," we share the reasons why family medicine physicians chose to enter the field.
